2014 USRA Nationals

This past week I traveled to New Jersey to compete in the Annual USRA Division II Nationals. This is an annual event held at a different venue each year where racers from around the world bring their best and compete with each other. This prestigious event was held at SpeedZone Raceway & Hobbies for the 2013 Calendar year. I did fairly well considering my inexperience: I was the Top Qualifier in Amateur GT-12 and also took the coveted 1st place podium position. With that success I am not elevated to Pro status meaning I will no longer be able to compete in any amateur class at future USRA Nationals. Local racer Timmy “The Geek” Burgess was my chosen painter and we took home 3 concours plaques in 1/32 Eurosport, JRL, and Expert GT-12 (I opted to race in the expert class to get more track time running with the fast guys). But most importantly we put in a bid competing with one other raceway to hold this event next year in the Spring of 2014. Yes you heard right, the USRA Nationals will be held at our humble little raceway next year. This will be a great opportunity for our local racers to compete on a national level. This of course won’t be anything new since we hold our own annual event “The Flats” each July. I believe our locals will make a great showing. We will in the near future start to assemble more information on the classes that will be ran, a schedule and of course all the other little pertinent details related to this event. A huge thanks to Jeff Sweeney for taking care of the shop while I was away, and also Roy Dredge for his help!
